I know that on most decorating shows, the first item the decorator removes from a room is the ceiling fan. But where I live, our high temperatures have been 100° or above for 17 days and counting this summer. So ceiling fans are a necessity. My ceiling fan in my living room has not worked for several years. I’m going to have an electrician do some work on my house soon and was going to have him repair my current fan. But the more I think about it, the more I think it’s time to get a new one. I chose this fan almost 10 years ago mostly because the blades are very similar to the finish of the wood floors (also a decision I would like to undo but that’s not in the budget).
I think the “boob-light” fan needs to go. Here are a few fans that I’m considering:

I really like this fan, but the nickel finish doesn’t fit with the rest of the decor. I thought about the white one, but from the reviews, it sounds like some adjustments would have to be made to the switch. And this one might be a bit too industrial for my 1940′s house.
Harbor Breeze Saratoga at Lowes
I think this one’s simple enough that it’s not too overwhelming.

Or maybe this one. I don’t love that it’s black. I would prefer a white one that’s simple and can kind of blend into the ceiling.
Minka Contemporary Fan at Amazon
I think this one might be my favorite. I don’t love the price; I much prefer the price of the first one. I know most decorators recommend a fan sans light, if you’re going to go with a fan, but I think this light blends in to the fan. And I don’t always, but do occasionally use the light on my current ceiling fan, it would be nice to have that option.
What do you think? Are you a fan hater? Which one would you choose? Do you have a better option for me?
