Watching… In Defense of Food. This documentary is a fascinating look into the food we eat. Michael Pollan explores what we should eat in order to be healthy. He dives into his philosophy, “Eat Food. Not too much. Mostly Plants.” The program investigates what (real) food is and what healthy people eat.
Reading… One Small Step Can Change Your Life: The Kaizen Way. I actually have about five books going right now. Kaizen is an ancient philosophy captured in this powerful statement from the Tao Te Ching: “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” It’s all about making change with small steps over time. I know my most successful changes have been made that way.
Wanting… a tortilla press. I have been experimenting with making Cassava tortillas. They are really easy to make and super yummy. They would be a lot easier to make with a tortilla press. I hate to add another piece of equipment to my kitchen, but if tortilla-making is going to be a regular occurrence, for my sanity, I think I’m going to have to get one.
Studying… watercolor. I have been contemplating doing using watercolor in some surface pattern designs and lettering projects. I was originally looking at just doing digital watercolors but the cost of digital brushes was kind of high and I would be limited by what those brushes offer. I decided a better route to take was to do my own watercolor from scratch. I’ve been taking Modern Watercolor Techniques and Waterbrush Lettering Essentials. Both classes are great! If you are looking to learn new skills, I highly recommend Skillshare; you can get a free month here.
Loving… Modern Skinny Jeans from Loft. I’ve been on the lookout for some replacement jeans for my old Old Navy jeans. I got these on sale and love them. They are incredibly comfortable and stylish. I love them so much I ordered another pair in a lighter wash (currently on super sale).
