From Scratch: Stovetop Popcorn

Today’s the big day… the season premier of Scandal airs tonight! If you watch the show, you know that Olivia’s dinner of choice is popcorn and a bottle of wine. When I watch the premier, I will be eating the same. Since the microwave stuff is pretty bad for you, I prefer stovetop popcorn. It’s so simple I don’t understand why the air popper ever caught on.


  • Coconut Oil
  • Popcorn Kernels

Cover the bottom of your pot (I use this 5 qt Ikea Pot) with coconut oil and a single layer of popcorn kernels. Turn the heat on high and cover the pot. It will quickly begin popping. I usually turn off the heat once the corn is steadily popping. Wait for the popping to stop and you’re good to go. I usually mix it up with a little more coconut oil and some seasoning. My current favorite is a mix of salt, cayenne pepper, chili powder, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Yum!
